FUNDRAISING
GUIDE
Simple steps to smashing your fundraising goals.
THE WHY, THE WHO AND THE HOW
Add a profile pic and if you have a personal story of why you’re taking part, and you’re comfortable sharing, please do.
Even if you don't feel comfortable sharing your story, an explanation of why you are motivated to participate is very powerful - you never know who reads it and feels inspired!
Finally, don't forget to let them know how they can support you.
IT'S NOT A SECRET... START SMALL BUT OFTEN
Make sure everyone knows what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. Be sure to share daily updates – and they don’t all have to be asking for donations. Show photos or videos of your work outs or share some of the R U OK? resources and don’t forget to tag @ruokday and #lifttheweightchallenge.
LEAD BY EXAMPLE
Show your commitment to the challenge and the cause by making the first donation to your page.
We all know it can be daunting to be the first one, so help your fundraiser along and lead by example.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK
Most people will be delighted to support you and R U OK? (who receive 100% of donations)! It may take a few tries asking via email / phone / in person / social media.
Importantly, don't be discouraged if the first couple of asks feel hard or strange. Grab some mates and practice asking for support. If you are participating in-club, approach your Club Manager for tips on the challenge or visit the FAQs page on the website. Remember, practice makes perfect.
WHAT'S NEW?
This year, Anytime Fitness have generously provided $60,000 in matching donations across 3 dates during the challenge period.
On 11, 15 and 18 April, Anytime Fitness will MATCH $20,000 in donations on each date. This means, if you receive (or give) a $50 donation, Anytime Fitness will match the gift (so a $50 donation becomes $100 for R U OK?), up to $20,000.
No matter if you are a fundraiser or a donor, this DOUBLES THE IMPACT you are making!
SHOW YOUR GRATITUDE
Make sure to thank every donor for their support. This could be a phone call, email or post on social media. A post showing your progress and tagging your latest donor(s) to thank them is a great way to increase interest and show your gratitude at the same time.
HOW TO ASK FOR
DONATIONS
Social media is the simplest way to reach a wide audience and can be easily done from almost anywhere.
Email is also a great way to reach a lot of friends and teammates.
And don’t forget the power of chatting face to face – you can always drop into a chat that you’re taking part in Lift the Weight and let your friends know why you’re supporting R U OK?
WE TRULY APPRECIATE
ALL OF YOUR EFFORTS
Every step, every conversation and every dollar that you raise is helping to spread the R U OK? message and start more life-changing conversations.
For those fundraisers who go above and beyond and raise over $500 we’re offering our special supporter pack which includes a pair of R U OK? x Anytime Fitness wrist sweatbands, an R U OK? water bottle and small gym towel.
HOW TO ASK R U OK?
Thank you so much for choosing to join Lift the Weight. Your support allows R U OK? to reach more Australians and help give them the confidence and resources to ask, “are you OK?”
